-Robert A. “Bud” Garrett-Robert A. “Bud” Garrett, 88, of Columbus City, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City. Robert Alan Garrett was born September 29, 1918, in New Boston, IL, the son of Frank and Laura (LaMason) Garrett. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII, serving in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Then on October 24, 1945 Robert “Bud” was united in marriage to Mary Marie Morgan at the Methodist Parsonage in West Liberty, IA. Bud was a carpenter and member of the local Union #1260 of Iowa City where he received his 55-year pin. Working for different construction companies, he helped to build Hancher Auditorium, the VA Medical Center and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and dormitories in Iowa City. Bud also owned a small engine business and did lawn mower repair in his shop for many years. Bud will be dearly missed by his children, Cheryl Todd and her husband, Rexford of Columbus Junction, Laura Grogan and her husband, Chet of Jamestown, ND, Patricia Coil and her husband, Howard of Columbus City and Pamela Mottet and her husband, Chris of Columbus Junction; 6 grandchildren, Jeanna Gerot and her husband, Dave of Columbus Junction, Rex Robert Todd and his fiancée, Melissa of Cedar Rapids, Rodney Alan Grogan and his wife, Jeri of Washington State, Krista Bretz and her husband, Eric of Florida, Michael Shawn Grogan of Gulfport, Mississippi and Bob Coil and wife, Katie of Columbus Junction; 9 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ted Garrett and his wife, Roberta of Columbus Junction; 1 sister, Ruby Tompkins of Muscatine; a sister-in-law, Joan Garrett of Columbus Junction. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary in 1995; 1 grandson, James Smith; 3 brothers, Neal and Max Garrett, both in infancy, and Charles Garrett; and 2 sisters, Phyllis Dorkowski and Hazel Lord.
