Joanne Foss Hendrickson, age 73, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at her home following an extended illness.
Celebration of life services were held at10:30 am Friday, July 3, 2009 at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating.  Interment took place at the Columbus City Cemetery in Columbus City, Iowa.  Memorials have been established to the United Presbyterian Church in Washington or to Hospice of Washington County.  Online condolences may be sent for Joanne’s family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.

Joanne Carol Foss was born September 13, 1935 in Columbus City, Iowa the daughter of August H. and Evelyn Allen Foss.  She graduated from Columbus Junction High School and moved with her parents to St. Petersburg, Florida where Joanne attended Bixby Business School.

Joanne was united in marriage to Dick Hendrickson on July 3, 1954.  They lived at various locations in Iowa throughout their married life. Together they owned the Coast to Coast Store in Albia, Iowa and later owned the Coast to Coast Store in Spencer, Iowa.  Joanne later worked at Von Maur department store in Bettendorf and for Younkers in Des Moines.  They moved to Washington in 2002 following their retirement.

Joanne was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.  She enjoyed the United Presbyterian Church family and the various groups within the church. Every Friday morning she also looked forward to meeting with the Sunshine Coffee group.  She belonged to Avion/Fleetwood travelcade club for 29 years and attended most local events and many national rendezvous. Her favorite evening was playing farmers rummy and joker with friends.

She is survived by her husband, Dick Hendrickson of Washington; two sons, David and wife, Katie of Atlanta, Georgia; Dan and wife, Lori of Longmont, Colorado; her mother, Evelyn A. Foss of Lehigh Acres, Florida; one sister, Royene Hankins of Labelle, Florida; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, August Foss.
