Evelyn Owens Traut, 93, of Washington, died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Washington County Hospitals and Clinics in Washington Iowa.

Funeral services for Evelyn will be held on Monday, October 8, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction.  Burial will be in Cambrian Cemetery.  Casketbearers will be Kenneth McGuire, Ivan Owens, David Erwin, Mike McGuire, Kenneth Traut, and Ron Traut.  Visitation for Evelyn will be held on Monday, October 8, 2007 from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the United Presbyterian Church in Cotter in memory of Evelyn.  Sympathy notes may be left for the Traut family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Evelyn Marjorie Swailes was born on December 21, 1913, in Gladwin, Iowa, the daughter of William “Herbert” and May (McGuire) Swailes.  In 1938, Evelyn was united in marriage to Howard T. Owens in Cotter, Iowa.  Howard passed away in 1983.  On September 14, 1999, Evelyn was united in marriage to Omar L. Traut in Fairfield, Iowa.  Evelyn worked in retail and as a seamstress.   She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Cotter and a past member of the Rebekah Lodge No. 1 in Bloomfield, which was the first in the United States.

Evelyn will be deeply missed by her husband, Omar, of Washington; two step-sons. Kenneth L. Traut and his wife, Linda, of Cedar Rapids and Ronald E. Traut and his wife, Mar Jean, of Swisher; three step-daughters, Thelma Wells and her husband, Carl, of Galesburg, IL, Joan Martin and her husband, Bill, of Marengo and Phyllis R. Lamb and her husband, Frank, of Marion; seventeen step-grandchildren; seventeen great-step-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Howard in 1983, and one brother, Maynard in 1996.
