Verlyn Lee “Poppy” Wheeler, 58, of Olds, formerly of Columbus Junction, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the First Assembly of God Church in Muscatine. Pastor Richard White and Reverend Robert Newton will officiate. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.

Casket bearers are Steve Douthart, Jayson Calhoun, John Hird, Don Hiller, Jim Hiller and David Anderson. Honorary bearers are Troy Bonar, Dennis Hiller and Austin Newton.

A luncheon will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service. Memorials may be made to the Verlyn Wheeler Memorial Fund. Online condolences and memorials may be left for the Wheeler family at: www.nicholschapelhill.com.

He was born August 9, 1948, at Iowa City, the son of Virgil and Nathalee Peck Wheeler. He married Cyndi M. Hiller on April 12, 1980, in Columbus Junction. He was a 1966 graduate of Columbus Community Schools. He was a truck driver for Hahn Ready Mix for over thirty years. He was a member of Dover Fellowship in Olds. He enjoyed music, singing, playing keyboards and accordion. He also enjoyed acting and participating in church plays.

He is survived by his wife, Cyndi; one son, Brandon of Olds; his father, Virgil Wheeler of Muscatine; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cathy, Charlotte (David), Duane, Dennis (Linda), Rosemary, Jim and Don (Ruchel); mother-in-law, Jean Hiller; ten adopted grandchildren; five nieces; two nephews; and one great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father-in-law, Earl “Pops” Hiller, one aunt, Idabel Walker and a cousin, Gary Walker.
