-Ruth Ann Fletcher-

Ruth Ann Fletcher, age 95, of Wapello, died Tuesday morning, April 15, 2008, at the Wapello Nursing & Rehab Center. The daughter of Perry Alfred ‘Fred’ and Rhoda Ann Marion Morrison, she was born on June 10, 1912, at Columbus City, Iowa. She married Knowlton Llewellyn Fletcher on May 27, 1933, at Muscatine. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2000.

Ruth attended the Pleasant View School and the Columbus City School. She was a homemaker and then operated Ruth’s Café, the restaurant at the sale barn at Wapello for about twenty-five years.

She had been a member of the Friendly Neighbors. Ruth was the family barber and enjoyed mushroom hunting, cooking, sewing, and all the activities with the family.

She is survived by her five children, Shirley and Jack Samuels of Wapello, Perry Fletcher of Wapello, Iris and Dick Soukup of Kalona, Iowa, Karolyn and Art Sanders of Hartford, Wisconsin, and Llewann and Rich Bryant of Wapello; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Jo Hammond of Columbus Junction, Lillian Fletcher of Wapello, and Marion Langstaff of Oakville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Knowlton; three brothers, Dale, Ted, and John; and three sisters, Edna Partington, Helen Morrison, and Mable Wilson.

The funeral ceremony for Ruth Fletcher was held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial followed at the Columbus City Cemetery. The family and friends gathered for a lunch and fellowship at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall following the committal.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Keck Memorial Library and the Wapello Volunteer Fire Department.
