-Dick Moore Sands-

Dick Moore Sands, age 83, of Morning Sun, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at the Morning Sun Care Center.  The son of Glen and Edna (Moore) Sands, he was born April 5, 1925 near Ainsworth, Iowa.  On February 20, 1949 he married Barbara Schneider at Davenport.  He was a graduate of the Columbus Junction High School.  He served in the US Army during W.W. II.  He was a farmer and worked as a welder for the Hawkeye Group.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Lions Club, and Hays-Scott American Legion Post, all of Morning Sun; he was a former Cub Scout Leader and a former Morning Sun School Board member.

Survivors include:  his wife, Barbara of Morning Sun; one son, Danny and Jamie Sands of Mediapolis; three daughters, Betsy and Fran Davis of East Moline, Illinois; Carla and Dan Weber of Mediapolis; Judy Sands of Morning Sun; seven grandchildren, Jeff Sands, Wendee and Jason Chase, Luke Davis, Jason and Leslie Weber, Cara Weber, Brian Weber, and Bethany Weber; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Ryan Chase; two brothers, Bill and Sam Sands both of Columbus Junction; three sisters, Charlotte Morrison of Columbus Junction, Jean Wykert of Burlington and Joan Grim of Nichols.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morning Sun First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman and Rev. Ronald Good officiating.  Interment will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun.  The family will meet with friends from 9:30 until service time on Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the benefit of Alzheimer’s Research, Morning Sun Community Building Fund, Morning Sun Lions Club, and the Morning Sun United Methodist Church.
