-Roger N. Aronhalt-

Roger N. Aronhalt, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, July 04, 2008, at Arbor Court.

Visitation was held on Monday, July 7, 2008, beginning after 1:00 p.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family greeted friends from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Don Coffin officiating.  Burial was in the Cambrian Cemetery near Columbus Junction, IA, with military rites provided by the Winfield American Legion Post # 645.  Memorials have been established to Salem Fire Department and the Cambrian Cemetery.  On line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com

Born March 24, 1926, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Roger Newton was the son of Ralph N. and Beulah C. Richie Aronhalt.  He attended the Mt. Union Trinity Church as a young boy.  He moved with his family to Winfield in 1936 where he attended the Methodist Church in Winfield.  He received his early education at the Colfax Country School.  Roger graduated from Winfield High School in 1943, and attended Iowa Wesleyan College for one year.  He served in the United States Navy on the destroyer, USS Benner, during WWII. 

Following his discharge from the Navy, Roger graduated from Iowa State College.  On September 17, 1955, he married Margaret Louise Humphreys of Wyman, IA, at the Salem Presbyterian Church in rural Columbus Junction.  She survives. 

After graduation from Iowa State, Roger joined his father on the family farm.  In 1959, he was named Master Swine Producer.  He moved to the Cedar Creek Community in 1969.  For a short time, he worked for Superior Cable and then for REC in Mt. Pleasant for 20 years, retiring in 1991. 

Roger was a member of the Cedar Creek Church and Henry County Farm Bureau.  He was a 4-H leader and a 60-year member of the American Legion Post #645 in Winfield.  He enjoyed reading western novels and gardening. 

Along with his wife, Louise, Roger is survived by two sons, John N. Aronhalt and James A. Aronhalt, both of Mt. Pleasant, IA.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Aronhalt was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers-in-law, and two sisters-in-law.
