Monroe Jennings, 84, of rural Columbus Junction, died Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Washington Care Center in Washington, Iowa.

Graveside services will be Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 3:30 pm at Fulton Cemetery near Cairo, Iowa. Rev. Joseph Sia of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation for Monroe will be held from 2:00-3:00 pm Saturday, July 26th at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Whitney Monroe Jennings was born May 26, 1924 in Louisa Center near Cairo, Iowa, the son of Donald Dean and Grace Jane (Smith) Jennings. On June 26, 1954 he was united in marriage with Lucille M. Laue in Burlington, Iowa. Monroe farmed all of his life with his parents, raising livestock and grain. He was a member of the REC, the Louisa Mutual Insurance and a past member of the Farm Bureau. Monroe enjoyed gardening, traveling, fishing, spending time in the outdoors and carpentry, helping to build farm buildings and two houses.

Monroe will be deeply missed by his wife, Lucille of rural Columbus Junction; his son, David Jennings of Columbus Junction; 2 brothers, Olin Jennings and wife, Norma of Columbus Junction and Doyce Jennings and wife, June of Wapello, Iowa; 3 sisters, Odena Winter of Davenport, Iowa, June Wiley and her husband Richard of Muscatine and Dixie Miller of Topeka, Kansas; his aunt, Helen Smith of Boone, IA; and numerous relatives.

Monroe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Warren Dean Jennings.
