Marian Jean Galitz, 83, of Columbus Junction, died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction with a luncheon held at the Columbus City United Methodist Church following the funeral service. Graveside sevices were Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at 3 P.M. in Columbus City Cemetery. Rev. Catherine Whitlatch of the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church officiated. Visitation for Jean was held on Monday, June 9, 2008 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Jean Morgan was born on October 16, 1924 in Columbus Junction, IA, the daughter of Wendell D. and Mary Helen (Jones) Morgan. On April 23, 1946 Jean was united in marriage to Donald A. Rutt in Columbus Junction. He passed away in 1955. Jean was united in marriage to Raymond L. Galitz on December 29, 1984 in Columbus Junction. She attended Columbus Junction School graduating in May of 1942. Jean graduated from AIC Business College of Davenport and as a life resident of the Columbus Junction area was a bookkeeper at Weber and Huston Feed Store from 1943 to 1945. She then became a bookkeeper at the National Bank. After Donald’s death in May of 1955 she started working as a clerk at Ross Dry Goods, where she was employed for 25 years. Jean served as the Columbus City Town Clerk since 1966, a member of the Columbus City United Methodist Church, the Columbus City Improvement Club, the Etude Club, the Royal Neighbors, and the “Peanuts” card group. Her favorite pastimes were reading, playing cards, and traveling to see her children.

Jean will be dearly missed by her husband, Ray Galitz of Columbus Junction; four children, Suzanne Moeller and her husband, Robert of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Carolyn Whitcher of Cedar Rapids, Richard Rutt of Beaverton, OR, and Robert Rutt of San Francisco, CA; three step-children, Dennis Galitz and his wife, Ruth of Columbus Junction, Patricia Kroeger and her husband, Duanne of Donahue, IA, and Judy Steward and her husband, Bill of Donahue, IA; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill Morgan of Columbus City.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Don Rutt in 1955; and a son-in-law, Michael Whitcher.
