Josephine “Jo” Hammond, 98, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.

Funeral services for Jo will be Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 10:30am at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction, Iowa.  Rev. Scott Smith of the United Methodist Church of Wapello will officiate.   Casket Bearers will be Ron Hammond, Rod Hammond, Max Hammond, Jeff Hammond, Terry Zimmer, Geno Zimmer, Don Gustison, Jim Gustison and Cory Gustison.  Honorary Casket Bearers will be Cathy Jo Greiner, Marion Zimmer and Becky Zimmer.  Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery.  Following the committal services there will be a time of food and fellowship at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church.  Visitation for Jo will be held on Wednesday, July 2nd from 5:00-7:00pm at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services.  A memorial has been established at the funeral home in Jo’s name.  Online condolences may be left for the Hammond family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.   

Mary Josephine Morrison was born April 16, 1910 in rural Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of Frederick and Rhoda (Marion) Morrison.  On September 27, 1927 Jo was united in marriage to Max Hammond in Wapello, Iowa.  Jo was a homemaker and attended the Louisa Center Church for many years.  She was also a 50-year member of the Rebecca Lodge.  Jo enjoyed country music, angels and flowers.  She loved making homemade bread, spending time with her grandchildren and getting together with her brothers and sisters for reunions.  Jo will be greatly missed by all who knew and enjoyed her great spirit for living life to the fullest.

Jo is survived by her son, Richard Hammond and his wife, Lorna of Wapello; her daughter, Sharon Zimmer and husband, Eugene of LeMars, IA; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; her sisters, Lillian Fletcher and Marion Langstaff and husband, Douglas, all of Wapello; and a son-in law, Jack Gustison and a daughter-in-law, Mary Hammond, both of Wapello. 

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Max in 1988; 1 grandson, John Hammond; 3 brothers, Dale, Ted and John Morrison; and 4 sisters, Edna Partington, Helen Morrison, Ruth Fletcher and Mabel Wilson.
